John Peek has been part of the Peek Brothers story from the very beginning. After painting during his Berkeley years and summers with family and friends, John teamed up with his brother Ned in 1981 to launch what would become a trusted San Diego painting company. With a business degree, a love for hands-on work, and a commitment to doing things right, John helped build Peek Brothers Painting one project and one relationship at a time.
Jon’s journey in the painting industry began between 1996, when he ran a successful student painting franchise while earning his business degree at Seattle Pacific University. During these formative years, Jon discovered his foundational business philosophy: delivering uncompromising quality and operating with total integrity wasn’t just the right way to treat people – it was the best way to build a referral-driven business.
After a brief venture into the Phoenix, AZ real estate market, Jon relocated to San Diego. In 2007, seeing a distinct need for sustainable, eco-conscious contracting, he founded PaintGreen. Driven by his core values, Jon grew PaintGreen into one of the highest-rated eco-friendly painting companies in San Diego.
In 2022, looking to expand his impact and build on a shared legacy of excellence, Jon partnered with Peek Brothers, merging the two companies. Today, he manages the day-to-day operations of Peek Brothers, ensuring every project reflects the same commitment to craftsmanship and integrity he championed from day one.
Beyond the Brush: When he isn’t overseeing projects, Jon is deeply invested in the local community. He is the co-founder and Executive Director of CoLab, a nonprofit makerspace that empowers local artists by providing free access to advanced equipment, including 3D printers, woodworking tools, screen printing, and CNC routers. An avid outdoorsman and maker, Jon also spends his spare time hiking, backpacking, kayaking, adventure motorcycling, playing disc golf, and creating his own art.
