You should know that when you own a home and don’t hire some service to do it for you on a semi-regular basis, you’re going to have to spend some time cleaning your gutters.
It is important to realize that when you are cleaning your gutters, there is a certain danger inherent in performing the cleaning. However, if you are careful and know what you are doing, you can still maintain a relatively safe procedure.
One of the key aspects of cleaning your gutters is that you pretty much have to get up high to access them and properly clean them.
This being the case, you as a person may suffer from conditions that would make it difficult and, in some cases, nearly impossible to do correctly.
The sensation of dizziness or the feeling of vertigo are two things that can present you with an issue in cleaning your gutter — and if you feel these, you need to either be extra careful or reconsider being the person to clean your gutters.
One might see an air blower, perhaps the kind used to blow leaves typically, and think that this is the perfect thing to clean out one’s gutters.
The truth is that the power that your average leaf blower puts forth that is not the kind that is required to clean out your gutters properly.
Even worse, you might get some water to come out of the gutters and into your leaf blowing system that it may entirely ruin it.
There really aren’t all that many ways to get up to your gutters to clean them — pretty much the ladder is the only safe way to make sure that you get it done.
With that in mind, you will need to have a stable ladder to be safe when you’re cleaning your gutters — and the absolute most safe way to get it done is to have someone stabilize the ladder for you by holding it while you are up.
Another way to be safe on the ladder is to make sure that you’re not on the top of it — that is the least safe place to be on the typical ladder.
There are two important safety gear pieces that you should absolutely make sure that you have on when you are cleaning your gutters — your goggles and your gloves being two of them.
Goggles are fundamental to cleaning your gutters because anything that could come out of the gutters could be sharp and hurt your eyes — and if it could hurt your eyes, it could hurt your hands as well.
There are few things as dangerous as trying to use caustic chemicals to clean your gutters.
You may think that you’re doing yourself a favor and making the gutters that much easier to clean by using chemicals to wash them out but most often, this is not what happens.
Instead, what you end up doing is causing small amounts of damage to be caused over the span of your rain gutters, and then they ultimately develop holes in them where holes do not belong and leak water all over the place.
Better to clean your gutters manually and save the chemical cleaning for your indoor plumbing, which is better suited to handle it.
