When you have a house, you will certainly have some sort of gutter system that will do so much to protect your home from rains, be they big or small, as it redirects the water well away from your home and doesn’t allow it to collect in pools close to your home.
If you don’t clean your gutter, however, you could be looking at a veritable disaster — and it is the kind of cleaning that needs to be done on a regular basis.
When water doesn’t properly flow through your gutter, it is possible that it will gather up in pools by the side of your house — and the longer it stays there, the worse your house is for the wear.
Specifically, it does long term damage to your home, which can then do things like make your floors uneven and cause cracks to form in your wall.
Of course, once you have a cracked foundation as an issue, it’s just a matter of time before the other things start happening, and soon what could have been a fairly simple cleanup job turns into something that requires professionals to come in and make major repairs.
When you don’t have the simple might of the rain gutters running along your roof, you run the real risk that you will get rainwater leaking inside of your home. Rainwater leaking into the home could cause quite a bit of flood damage if it is not stopped and treated quickly.
You can even find yourself dealing with serious water stains on your ceiling, which will seem to have mysterious causes, but when you discover they actually come from a leak on the side of the house because of a gutter issue will start to make a lot more sense.
Of course, it’s entirely possible if you don’t even think to correct the cause of the leak, you could spend the time to clean the ceiling and find yourself with a new stained ceiling not that much later.
A clogged gutter is sort of an invitation for an infestation of all kinds of nasty creatures to come into your home — you could be looking at anything from rodents to all manner of insects.
You would do well to avoid having these sorts of pest problems by taking the time to keep your rain gutters clean and clear of the sort of clogs that can happen when things accumulate in them.
One of the more frightening things that could happen if your gutters are sufficiently clogged is that the water would just continue to accumulate, ultimately making the gutters heavier and heavier.
At a certain point, the weight of the gutters just plain exceeds the ability of the gutter to be held up. — at that point, it would quite literally break apart and possibly even snap off of the house and cause extensive damage to the house and roof.
If you are looking at eventually selling your home at some point down the line, or even if you just want to make sure that your home has a good look, generally speaking, keeping up curb appeal is important.
One aspect of having good curb appeal are rain gutters that don’t have the appearance of being overflowing with leaves and other debris, as this is not exactly the best look for your home.
Additionally, when you take into consideration all of the bad things that could happen to your home when you don’t take care of your gutters, you’re looking at a lot of things that will vastly decrease the curb appeal of your home.
