St. James By the Sea in La Jolla, CA Repaint 2014

30 years ago, my brother; Ned and I, painted the inside of St. James By-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

We also had the opportunity at that time to paint the outside.

Well, here it is, 30 years later, we get a call from the church saying it is time to repaint the outside.

Well, after looking at it closely, we realized that it would need to be sandblasted and mostly re-stuccoed on the stucco surfaces.

Although we did repaint the administration side of the building stucco and all the wood surrounding the whole church, all the windows, all the doors.

It was a major project, and as you can see the condition of the poured in place concrete was not great.

Of course, the doors were a little exposed, but it looks a lot better after we have varnished it.

We re-did all the metal there as well.

You can definitely tell how much better the new stucco looks.

There’s also a bench there outside that was a gift from my father, in honor of my mother.

Here, the windows are in very poor shape, we prepped them so that they could last another 30 years.

Maybe with a little touch up here and there, but they are beautiful old windows.

And many of the older windows on the south side had to be replaced with historically accurate windows.

In the video, you can see the windows being painted by one of the team members, showing their hard work up there on the scaffold.

He was painting the stucco on the administration side of the building.

In the video you can see a picture of Tony, he was my team leader on that project.

Then there is the northside of the church, you might recognize and there is the bell tower fully ready to go.

We used Apptek Stucco101 to re-stucco and they really did a beautiful job using synergy.

You can also see the base coat and our finished painting on the windows and the stucco of the admin side.

This northside was the synergy stucco, isn’t that just beautiful?
