If you choose, however, to use a kind of solution that doesn’t need to be rinsed, you can get away with using a one-part bucket (which some will just call a bucket) to clean your ceiling properly.

You can optionally choose to get a pair of goggles to protect your eyes while you are cleaning your ceiling — some say that goggles are a must.

Make Sure Your Paint Job Can Be Cleaned

Before you get started on the cleaning, you will have to make sure that the paint job that you have is the kind of paint that actually can be cleaned.

The one kind of paint that cannot be cleaned is flat paint, which absolutely cannot be cleaned and instead requires a repainting.

If you have a paint job other than flat paint, you will be able to clean the ceiling.

As it turns out, if you think that your ceiling is not flat and it ends up being flat, you will get your ceiling clean… and it will remove much of the paint off of your ceiling as well.

Feather Duster First

The first thing you will do before you thoroughly clean with your sponge and cleaning solution is to lightly dust the surface of the ceiling with something like a feather duster.

Though this might not always be necessary, you will surely find that it is helpful mainly for you to get the looser dust and dirt off of the surface of your ceiling prior to getting in there with your soapy sponge to get the dirt off of the ceiling properly.

Get To Cleaning

Now is the time to really make your ceiling shine, so to speak — you will have to apply the soapy solution to the ceiling, one section at a time, and make sure that you know whether your soap is the kind that needs to be rinsed or not.

If it is the kind of soap that does not need to be rinsed, you have, of course, just about finished with the cleaning process.

If, on the other hand, your soap requires some kind of rinsing, you will need to use the water you have on the other side of the bucket to rinse the soap off of your ceiling properly.
