You might have some of the most beautiful cabinets in your bathroom, but if it has been quite a while since they were painted or even if you just realize that the color you chose a couple of years ago is really not for you, it’s worth thinking about making the time for a painting project.
However, if you don’t make the time first to prepare for the painting project, it’s entirely possible that it will take you longer to do and will cost more money — but the good news is that learning to prepare for it is relatively simple.
Let’s have a look at some tips for bathroom cabinet painting preparation that will get you ready for your painting project.
In getting ready to paint your bathroom cabinets, you’re going to want to first remove all of the hardware that is found on the doors and drawers.
Additionally, at some point, you are going to want to remove the doors and drawers themselves, but this is the case because it’s more useful to paint a cabinet with no doors and drawers.
When you remove the hardware, you will ideally put it in some sort of storage so that you don’t misplace it but also the hardware that connects the doors to the cabinets.
It’s best to organize this particular hardware so that you don’t put the wrong hardware on the wrong doors, as it were.
While you have the basic hardware off, it’s possible you will think about the hardware that might look nicer on your cabinet, which you could get from a hardware store or even a thrift shop if you luck out on a find.
One of the big parts of painting your bathroom cabinets is going to be in choosing the right color or colors for them.
Of course, if you already have a few colors from which you can choose based on a color set that has been pre-chosen, you will be pretty much set but that may not be the case.
If you aren’t sure what color or colors to use, you can have a look around the bathroom and look at what colors are there and then use that as a starting point for calculating colors that would look good with said colors — and here is where it gets a bit tricky, because paper paint swatches really are not adequate at fully realizing compatibility.
Ideally, you’re going to want to get a couple of little paint samples and then paint some areas of your cabinet so that you will see what the colors will really look like — and based on that make the choice if you want those colors or try to find others.
If you don’t know, one of the biggest problems that can be found in a home and especially in a bathroom (owing to the greater amount of humidity) is mold and mildew.
You have to be quite vigilant to thoroughly remove any trace of mold and mildew because if you don’t eliminate it well enough, you will be seeing it later on and that is quite a bad thing.
Make sure that before you go to the store to get your paint and primer, you have carefully measured all of the surfaces that are going to be painted.
Based on these measurements, you’re going to be able to figure out how much paint and primer will actually be necessary so that at the end of the day you neither have run out of them nor have you got so much of them that you finish painting and have buckets just sitting around in a closet.
By doing this simple task you’ll better prepare for your painting project.
